Time magazine included the vegan tuna produced by the start-up company Kuleana in its famous 2021 100 Best Inventions list. To create this list, Time magazine solicits nominations from its editors and correspondents through an online application process, and then evaluates each competitor based on key factors such as originality, creativity, efficacy, ambition and influence. Kuleana's sushi-grade vegan tuna was chosen because of its unique ingredient list (including algae, koji, radish, bamboo, and potatoes), health-promoting qualities, and its potential to save the world, making industrial tuna fishing obsolete.

"Delicious and nutritious plant-based meat and chicken substitutes have existed for many years. But what about seafood? Not that much," Time magazine wrote of Kuleana's innovative tuna. "This is the gap that Kuleana is trying to fill with its 100% plant-based, sushi-grade, ready-to-eat tuna... [It] retains the real iron, vitamin B12 and omega-3 fatty acids — no microplastics, mercury or high cholesterol The benefits are not just nutrition-it may also help reduce dependence on industrial fishing in the face of increasing demand for fresh food."

Kuleana shares the list of TIME’s best inventions with the COVID-19 vaccine. Its vegan tuna is one of TIME’s only three food category inventions — the other two are SAVRpak (a small package to keep food fresh) and Sfognili cascatelli (one A new noodle shape)). Special mentions of TIME include UPSIDE Chicken (cell-based chicken produced by California-based UPSIDE Foods) and vegan honey from MeliBio (which uses proprietary technology to make real honey without using bees).

San Francisco-based Kuleana considers Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian (Alexis Ohanian) as an investor. It was established to solve many problems in the traditional seafood industry, including overfishing, plastic pollution, and fish fraud , Human slavery and human health issues. Its first product, Kuleana Tuna, can be used in traditional dishes that require sushi-grade tuna, such as carpaccio, sashimi, sushi, and ceviche. Vegan tuna is currently served on the menus of specific locations at Poké Bar and Blue Sushi Sake Grill.

In the retail sector, Kuleana Tuna is only sold at Erewhon, a health store in the Los Angeles area. To this day, the innovative vegan tuna is launched online through the electronic retailer GTFO It's Vegan. Kuleana tuna is now available in two forms (poke cubes and fillets). The price per 8.8-ounce pack is $13.99. The shelf life in the refrigerator is 7 days and the shelf life in the refrigerator is 12 months. Kuleana CEO and co-founder Jacek Prus said in a statement: “We are providing next-generation seafood that has no environmental impact.” “Kuleana is a seafood that is good for our taste and our planet. "

In addition to Kuleana, GTFO (which stands for "GreaT Foods") recently launched its own brand of konjac vegetarian sashimi, including tuna, salmon, swordfish and squid, to provide the widest selection of plant-based sashimi in the United States. With Kuleana GTFO is further expanding into the lucrative vegetarian seafood field.

Marc Pierce, CEO of GTFO It's Vegan, said: “After monitoring tens of thousands of transactions on our platform and observing customer purchase patterns, we believe that the next wave of innovation in plant-based foods will appear in the seafood sector.” A statement. "We are very happy to find Kuleana and work with it because they do have a leading plant-based sashimi solution in the fast-growing category. With the taste and texture of this product, we know it will become our wholesale and retail customer Winner."

Kuleana is not the first vegetarian innovator to be recognized by TIME. In 2018, "Time" magazine included Beyond Sausage in its list of the top 100 inventions of 2018, pointing out that its first entry into the field of plant-based pork "tastes surprisingly close to the real thing". In 2019, Time magazine focused on Beyond Meat's top competitor, Impossible Foods, on its Impossible Burger 2.0 innovation list, which improved the original beef-like texture and flavor.

Last year, Time Magazine also recognized Impossible Foods in its Impossible Pork's annual innovator list, praising that plant-based pork can replace traditionally raised pork, which is the world’s most consumed meat, accompanied by many environmental issues, such as waste. Pollution.

Speaking of vegetarians, Time magazine awarded climate activist Greta Thunberg the prestigious "Person of the Year" title in 2019, making the 16-year-old the youngest recipient in its 92-year history.
